Emphasizing steps 8-12, Michael’s House helps foster growth for the individual who has made a beginning in their recovery experience via the process of the 12 Steps. With help from an involved staff of recovered drug addicts and alcoholics, Michael’s House guests will be shown how to:
- Create a thorough amends list (Step 8)
- Make directs amends (Step 9)
- Continue to take personal inventory (Step 10)
- Improve conscious contact with a Higher Power through prayer and meditation (Step 11)
- Help others and practice these principles in all our affairs (Step 12)
After an initial restrictive period, individuals will then be required to look for employment in order to explore the balance between work, family, and recovery. The re-immersion back into their social responsibilities will help give guests the opportunity to implement the tools they’ve learned throughout the 12- Step process.
Living agreement is below
Michael’s House is a men’s ADF (alcohol and drug free) community committed to providing a safe, positive, individually accountable, post-12 step rehab environment. Failure to comply with all rules and expectations in this document are grounds for immediate termination. We as management enforce a zero tolerance attitude towards individuals not engaged with their personal progress and the wellbeing of others within the community. Noncompliance will be interpreted as a lack of interest in the goals of the community, therefore a distraction to the community as a whole, which will result in termination of the individual’s guest status.
Pre-approved guest visitors are allowed everyday between the hours of 12:00 PM-5:00 PM, with guests accountable for their visitor’s actions. No more than 2 visitors at one time unless they are relatives and pre-approved.
Daily Chore, two strike rule
All guests will be assigned a daily chore to be completed by 7:00 PM. In the event a guest either misses his chore or fails to mark it off as completed, that guest will be given one strike with two strikes resulting in immediate expulsion. However a guest can have his first strike removed by completing all guest’s assigned daily chores within 72 hours.
All medication must be cleared by staff. Please inquire about restricted medication.
Smoking/ vaping is only allowed in the patio “smoking area” behind the house. Residents must be quiet at smoking area after 9:00 PM to be mindful of neighbors.
Residents must supply their own linens and keep their bedroom area neat and orderly at all times
Residents must be out of bed by 8:00 AM weekdays and 9:00 AM on weekends.
All residents must provide their own food, which must be kept in refrigerators and designated cabinets for nonperishable items.
Any appliances used must be cleaned after each use.
No dirty dishes will be left in the sink. If you use something, you must wash it and put it away after use.
All residents must be employed in some manner within 30 days of their move in date. In the event employment is not an option, volunteer options will be pursued.
12 Federal Street Property
Any guest that either causes damage to the property or smokes cigarettes in any area of the property other than the ONE designated smoking area will have his residency terminated.
Resident’s belongings (rooms, vehicles, cell phones, and computers) are subject to search at any time.
Properly licensed guests with vehicles are allowed to park at the designated offsite lot on Lopez Street for a fee of $50.00/month, once this privilege has been approved by management. Vehicles are not allowed on site at 12 Federal St. other than to drop off groceries etc. or to discharge other passengers, and then for a maximum of 15 minutes. All guests are expected to provide their own means to and from the Lopez lot and must provide their valid driver’s license to the house manager so a copy can be held on file.
All non-restricted residents (completed steps 1-7) must be in the house by 11:00pm Sunday through Thursday and by midnight on Friday and Saturday. Overnights are not permitted within the first 30 days of a guest’s stay. After this 30 day period, guests will be required to fill out a formal overnight request form, which will be either approved or denied by staff.
Guests of Michael’s House are not permitted to pursue new relationships during their stay. If a guest is found to be carrying on a new relationship, the guest will be terminated immediately.
Social Media Use:
Guests of Michael’s House are not permitted to have active accounts within the realms of Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. In addition, residents are not permitted to have accounts within dating websites, such as Plenty of Fish, Tinder, etc. If a guest is found with an active account in one of these social media outlets, he will be immediately expelled.
Random Drug Testing
Residents will be asked to leave the house immediately if they fail a drug test or cannot produce a specimen. Residents must produce a specimen within one hour of inquiry.
Residents who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol will also be subject to expulsion, regardless of test results.
In the event of a relapse, you will immediately be removed from the property for the sake of the other guests and your family will be immediately notified. We will provide a ride to hospital/detox or a ride to the train station. If your belongings are left at the house, you will have 72 hours to retrieve them. All items that are not claimed within 72 hours will be donated to charity.
There are no refunds. If the individual signing this document has his guest status terminated for relapse or an attitude detrimental to the community, there will be no refund whatsoever. In many respects, we view a bad attitude as more damaging to the community than a relapse.
Violation of these rules will result in immediate discharge. In the event a resident is
expelled for any reason, he forfeits the balance of any remaining fees already paid. At that time, Michael’s House waives any and all responsibility to that resident.
The above rules are subject to change at any time and are in place to guide the residents through their early recovery process.
I, ________________________ agree to follow the rules detailed above and understand that if I do not follow the above rules, I will be discharged from Michael’s House without refund of fees. I acknowledge and agree as a condition of occupancy that a Landlord/Tenant relationship does not exist and that my stay at Michael’s House is permissive only.
I waive to Michael’s House the benefit of all laws now and hereafter in force in Massachusetts or elsewhere, exemption property from liability of rent, or for debt. Should I be requested to leave Michael’s House for an infraction of any of the above rules or regulations and I refuse to leave, thus necessitating formal eviction proceedings, the all attorney fees and other associated costs incurred by Michael’s House will be my responsibility to pay. I further agree to hold harmless Michael’s House or its representative for any such actions. It is understood that Michael’s House is not responsible for personal property lost as a result of fire, flood, theft or any other cause. As such, all residents are encouraged to obtain a lockbox for their valuables. Whether I am asked to leave or I leave on my own volition, I understand there is not refund of fees for circumstance.
By signing this document I am stating that I am here under my own free will and that I am solely responsible for my own actions. I agree that Michael’s House, 12 Federal Street, Wilmington, MA 01887, or its representatives is in no way responsible or liable for any harm done to myself on or off Michael’s House property.
